![]() So maybe just put a loop in the dockutil section of your script. It seemed that after the second run the dock would be set properly. I believe the solution we used was to run the dockutil commands more than once. I believe that this person felt like it was a timing issue. ![]() Sometimes the dock would not be modified, other times the dock would be partially modified. But I recall that the staff member who set it up did experience issues with reliability. Even that's not 100% perfect in my tests, but it's a fair bit better than trying to run it entirely in a Jamf policy script payload. That seems to be the most consistent way to make it work. What has worked for me more reliably than others is to do as you said, to generate a local script with all the items in it, and run that script as the logged in user. The Dock is notoriously difficult to manage and manipulate and Apple hasn't made it any better over the years. However, I consider it more Apple's fault than the developer. Wish I could say dockutil was 100% reliable, but it just isn't. Sometimes only a few icons show up (until a log out/restart), sometimes no icons appear other than Finder and Trash, sometimes it works perfectly. Dockutil also works kind of inconsistent for me in my testing. That being said, I don't have a good answer. Adding a sleep might help, but I wouldn't count on it. $du -add '/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6.app' -position 12 -no-restart $userHomeĮxit His script is already waiting for the Dock to be running, right at the top, so I don't think it's because it's firing too soon. $du -add '/Applications/Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing.app' -position 11 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/Lego Digital Designer.app' -position 10 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/Photo Booth.app' -position 9 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/Google Earth.app' -position 8 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '~/Downloads' -section others -position last -no-restart $userHome $du -add "/Applications/Thinkin' Things 1/Thinkin' Things 1.app" -position 7 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/The Print Shop 2.app' -position 6 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/FableVision/Stationery Studio/Stationery Studio 1.2.app' -position 5 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/Doozla.app' -position 3 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/Comic Life 3.app' -position 4 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/Safari.app' -position 2 -no-restart $userHome $du -add '/Applications/Google Chrome.app' -position 1 -no-restart $userHome #Function for applying dock configuration User=$(python -c 'from SystemConfiguration import SCDynamicStoreCop圜onsoleUser import sys username = (SCDynamicStoreCop圜onsoleUser(None, None, None) or ) username = ] (username + " #Get the current logged in user that we'll be modifying #We need to wait for the dock to actually start I would be enormously grateful to anyone who can help me with this. I keep this list as a text file in IA writer, so I can add, move and change which items show up, all from one text file. If not, it passes the name to a “Run Shortcut” action. The shortcut filters this list by that number, deletes all text before the first letter, and builds a list to choose from.Īfter I chose an item from list, if the chosen item ends with “_ ,” it removes it and passes that name to an “Open App” action. Then it pulls a list from data jar (which is currently): 234: Things: Phone My master shortcut generates a number from 1-6, based on time and location. It will present a different menu, based on variables like wifi and time.īut, I have some of the same shortcut actions showing up in multiple menus, and changing/adding/moving and organizing was hard to keep track across multiple menus, so I wanted to simplify things. While I don’t have an action button, I have a shortcut in my doc that is similar. Maybe this is so 2021 to everyone else, but it’s recently made my life easier: Listening to episode 139, which was great, and inspired me to share this.

![]() Knowing Facebook’s IP address can be useful for troubleshooting network issues, configuring firewalls, or implementing content-filtering measures. While Facebook’s IP address is not something readily accessible to regular users, there are a few methods you can use to find it. It facilitates the transmission of data between servers and devices, allowing users to access and interact with the platform seamlessly. In summary, Facebook’s IP address is a crucial element that enables the platform’s functionality. This is due to the decentralized nature of Facebook’s infrastructure, where data centers are strategically placed worldwide to cater to global users. It’s important to note that Facebook’s IP address can differ based on your geographic location and the specific server you are connecting to. This helps prevent overloading of a single server and ensures consistent performance and availability of the platform. ![]() This routing process ensures efficient data transfer and supports the vast number of users accessing Facebook at any given time.įurthermore, Facebook employs load balancing techniques to distribute user traffic across multiple servers. Upon receiving the IP address, your device establishes a connection to the server and begins transmitting data. This process, known as DNS resolution, allows your device to find the specific server hosting Facebook’s website. When you enter “” into your web browser, your device initiates a request to the Internet Service Provider (ISP) to translate the domain name into the corresponding IP address. Facebook has multiple IP addresses that are used to host its platform and deliver content to users. This address serves as a virtual location, enabling data to be sent and received across networks. Understanding how Facebook’s IP address works can shed light on the intricate processes that occur behind the scenes.Īt its core, an IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a unique numerical identifier assigned to each device connected to the internet. Logarithms are a convenient way of expressing multiples between numbers. You’ll notice the formula for dB includes a logarithmic calculation. The origins of dB come from the days of early telephony-the name “dB” is related to the term “bel”, named after Alexander Graham Bell, a pioneer of modern telephony. So, if a signal (signal 1) has an amplitude of, say, 100 times the amplitude of a second signal (signal 2), then we can compare their amplitudes using dB as follows: Where, A 1 and A 2 are the amplitudes of the signals that you’re comparing. When applied to audio signals, the values that we often wish to compare are the amplitudes between two audio signals. In the world of audio, dB is an abbreviation for decibels and is a term that you’ll hear often-but what exactly is it? Decibels measure signal amplitude ratiosĭecibels-dB-is simply a measure of the ratio between two values. To understand more about dBFS’s role in digital audio, let’s take a closer look at dB and how it’s calculated, how dBFS is derived from dB, and how dBFS is used in digital audio systems. ![]() dB is widely used for measuring sound and audio metrics, including dB SPL, dBA, dB HL, dBu, and dBV.ĭBFS, however, is expressed differently from dB, and dB is not limited to digital systems. ![]() His synthesis of the insights of Durkheim, Webber, and others provided the corner stone for his "grand theory." Parsons' functionalism takes the form of a schema or descriptive framework of society, its component parts, and the interactions between them. Both these features make the operational researcher’s struggle to get to grips with the subject matter a little easier.ĭuring the first half of the 20th century Talcott Parsons developed his social theory of functionalism. However, he placed decisions to act at the centre of his theory and used systems ideas to flesh out his schema of the structure of society. Social theory is a notoriously difficult subject to understand and the writings of Parsons are particularly convoluted. Whatever the merits or failings of functionalism it provides a point of entry for OR academics seeking to situate their research in sociology. This paper (Part A) is the first in a series of three together these introduce social theory by taking a close look at functionalism (Parts A and B), and then identifying its impact on other social theories and discussing the implications for OR (Part C). However, the barriers to gaining an understanding of the theoretical basis of the subject are formidable. Since the 1970s a number of OR researchers interested in the process of OR have engaged with sociology. Functionalism thus can be used to provide an introduction to the development of modern social theory. Many of the modern schools of sociological thought can be viewed as deriving from functionalism or from the criticism it attracted. At the same time functionalism has been strongly criticised and it behoves OR to at least understand what it is that is being criticised. The sociological theory of functionalism dominated sociology in the middle of the 20th century and OR has inherited some of its concepts and assumptions. A subsequent paper (Part C) examines criticisms of functionalism, describes other schools of social theory in relation to it, and discusses the use made of social theory in OR. ![]() At the same time sufficient detail is provided to enable the reader to appreciate the complexity and depth of social theory in general and the functionalism of Parsons in particular. This paper summarizes the attempt by Parsons to develop an extensive and arguably comprehensive foundational basis for sociology. Further developments published in Working Papers in the Theory of Action (with Bales and Shils) and Economy and Society (with Smelser) focused on the relationship between the social and the economic system introducing the ‘four-function paradigm’ or AGIL model. In these books he introduces his system of ‘pattern variables’. In 1951 the results were published in two books, Towards a General Theory of Action (with Shils) and The Social System. He developed some key concepts to characterise the structure of social interaction and then expanded the scope of his framework to cover all aspects of society including some initial thoughts on how it maintains its stability and how it changes. Having developed his action frame of reference and his voluntaristic theory of action in The Structure of Social Action (described in Part A), Talcott Parsons turned his attention to the social system per se. The transmission app comes with most of the features one would expect from a torrent client – it supports magnet links and DHT, offers encrypted connection, has the option to blacklist bad peers, and more. Unlike some other entries on this list, Transmission won’t cause your Mac to use lots of RAM and you’d barely notice that the program is doing anything while it’s downloading something. Transmission is a lightweight torrent client compatible with macOS as well as Windows and Linux. May encounter performance issues if forced to handle too many torrents at once. The download process may sometimes freeze, requiring you to restart the app.Can sometimes require significant amounts of RAM.Intuitive interface perfect for newer users. ![]() Still, it is a great entry-level torrent client for Mac users that’s easy and intuitive to use and also provides the user with enough customization options for their torrent management. QBittorrent is an open-source app that has its advantages (the lack of ads is one of them), but you need to be aware that this could also make it more susceptible to attacks from malware and bugs that remain unpatched for longer periods of time. Like most other modern torrent clients, qBittorrent, too, works with magnet links. QBittorrent is one of the most popular macOS torrent clients – it’s free, has no ads, and offers a built-in torrent search that offers you the option to perform category-specific searches. So, if you are a Mac user and are interested in downloading movies, games, e-books, or other large files, you may want to learn about the best macOS Big Sur torrent clients for 2021, which is what’s going to be our main focus for the current article. However, not all torrent clients have versions for Mac – in fact, many popular torrent programs that used to work on Mac computers are no longer compatible with macOS since the release of macOS Catalina, followed by macOS Big Sur. ![]() Torrent clients allow their customers to download very large files from the Internet in a matter of minutes, which is why those programs are very popular. Such special programs used for reading through the metadata stored in torrent files and downloading whatever those files point to are called torrent clients. We will tell you about the strengths and weaknesses of each listed program, as well as about what extra features they have and what types of users they may be best suited for.Ī torrent file is a small file that contains metadata that can be read by a specialized program and used to facilitate and speed up the downloading process of much bigger files. With those factors in mind, we’ve tried to put together a list of the best torrent clients with functional and stable mac OS versions. As we already mentioned, even some good torrenting programs that used to work just fine on Macs are no longer a viable option for Mac users who have upgraded their computer to Catalina or Big Sur. Furthermore, some torrent clients that seem to have versions for macOS are not very stable when installed on a Mac and could start freezing and glitching, making it difficult to download anything with them. For instance, if you’ve never used such a program before, it may be best if you start with a torrent client that’s easy to understand and has a simpler interface that only gives you the most important features of the program instead of overwhelming you with advanced functions you likely don’t need.Īlso, note that there are many torrenting programs that aren’t particularly good and may actually do more harm than good as they might include lots of aggressive ads, and/or install additional software on the computer that may be problematic (adware, browser hijackers, PUPs, and more). However, the different torrent clients have different features and are best suited for different types of users. Most torrent clients work in a similar way, enabling the user to open torrent files and, through them, download the larger files that the metadata in the torrent file points to. ![]() If it’s your first half marathon, finishing and claiming that medal is a great achievement in itself, so don't worry about the time it takes. ![]() What is a good time for your first half marathon?
